Year-end Reflections (part 2)
On 3 December AGAPELLA presented a Christmas mini-concert at World Vision’s annual Christmas High-Tea. WV is the Singapore office of World Vision International, an international Christian relief and development organisation working to promote the well being of all people - especially children. The high-tea was an occasion for sponsors, donors and volunteers to fellowship and share the Christmas spirit.
The event was held at YWCA premises at Fort Canning Lodge, and included a mini-bazaar with all manner of stalls offering balloon sculpture, Touch Nature’s products, festive goodies etc. The food was excellent. That aside, the programme included a round-up of WV’s events for 2005. They do important work to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, especially among the youth. Also, their key programmes include the annual 30-hour famine programme, organized to raise awareness among our youth of the poverty situation in Asia; and the child sponsorship programme.
Local accountant-turned-youth counsellor and recording artiste Genie performed a couple of songs (she’s a great performer and her album “Genie’s mood diary” is just out, so check it out). AGAPELLA closed the event by singing our first “proper” Christmas repertoire for the year.
We reprised last year’s hugely successful crowd-pleasing mini-skit known as “The 12 Pains of Christmas”. We also tested our “Hark” and “Mary’s Boy Child” out on the audience, who liked them very much, thankfully. Lyn did some great sound engineering for us at this event.
World Vision is a wonderful organization with dedicated staff. Irene, Lynette, Mike, thanks for inviting us to be a part of your Christmas event – we were privileged to be a part of it! As your efforts bless the poor communities and children all over the world, may the Lord continue to bless you too.
