Home

"When the world my heart is rending
With its heaviest storm of care,
My glad thoughts to heaven ascending,
Find a refuge from despair.
Faith's bright vision shall sustain me
Till life's pilgrimage is past;
Fears may vex and troubles pain me,
I shall reach my home at last."

a-men

Walking on the water can easily be attributed to impulsive pluck, but walking on dry land as a disciple of Jesus Christ is a different thing. Peter walked on the water to go to Jesus, but he followed Him afar off on the land. We do not need the grace of God to stand crises; human nature and pride are sufficient, we can face the strain magnificently; but it does require the supernatural grace of God to live twenty-four hours in every day as a saint, to go through drudgery as a disciple, to live an ordinary, unobserved, ignored existence as a disciple of Jesus.

Auditions!

Agapella is looking for new members.
As you know, our mission for the past 3 and a half years has been to bring words of God's truth and love to the youth and the young at heart. We've shared our music at many different events, including Street Fest 2003, BB Cares at the Botanic Gardens, carolling at Tangs Department Store and our anual concerts at The 3rd Place. We have also sung at various outreach sessions for churches and organisations such as the YMCA Children's Camp (2003), Habitat for Humanity's 'Under No Roof' event (2003), Christian Care Services' Walk-A-Jog (2003), the Salvation Army's Family Fiesta (2004), and World Vision's annual Christmas high tea (2005). We have recently performed at the Esplanade Concourse and also in Malaysia.

We are now in the process of reshaping the group for 2006 and are recruiting for female voice parts, namely 1st Soprano and 2nd Soprano and/or Alto.

The ideal candidate should possess all the following attributes:

1) Love the Lord Jesus and have a commitment to furthering His Kingdom
2) Love singing and performing
3) Have some experience in singing (eg, church/school choir, soloist, karaoke, bathroom, etc.)
4) Be able to commit to a regular weekly rehearsal schedule and yearly performing schedule. Christmas is typically our busiest season.

If you can sight-read music that would be a plus but it's not an absolute necessity. Some vocal and musicality training will be provided if you join us.

The audition is planned for Sunday, 5th Feb 2006 from 8 pm onwards.
Email agapellafrens@yahoo.com.sg for more details.

Announcing the arrival of...

...a brand new year! And as is our traditional practice, Agapella is taking a few weeks off to pray and reflect on where we’ve come from, what we’ve done, and where God is taking us.

So in the meantime, all our gigs will be taken over by our sister group!!! Yes, fresh from the suburbs of Mumbai, here to bring you uplifting lyrics, messages of divine love, modulatedly mellow melodies and the pounding pounding rhythms of South Asia – it’s BHANGRAPELLA!!!

Back row: Shah Rukh Tan (baritone/tenor/tiffin i.c.), Shermaniam (tenor/conductor), Arun (tenor/treasurer), Juniyaan (bass/baritone), Staan (bass), Jaam (bass/vocal tabla)

Centre row: Theena (alto/soprano), Nameen Kaur (soprano/choreographer), Umma (mezzo soprano), Avreela (soprano/conductor)

the gift of song is only given to a fortunate few.

A bunch of us decided to hone our vocal skills at the K-ster last night. It was great that our AGAPELLA alumnus Lynn managed to join us, and also Juan Boon.

We had such fun! For starters, I was very impressed that the K-ster songbook listed little-known songs for every season. I think we really should add this song to our Christmas repertoire for this year-- it'll go nicely with our "12 Pains of Christmas" skit.
After my fellow k-sters warmed up the set, I took over. Here's a pic of them looking (understandably) depressed as I blow them away with my phenomenal euphonic talent. They were probably thinking "Well, I may outlive Methuselah but I'll never be able to sing like that"! And who can blame them. I wasn't entirely sure what Chris was doing over in the corner, but he too seemed overcome by my powerful harmonics.

I don't want to toot my own horn, but I do get this sort of enthusiastic reaction quite often. It's nice to have fans.

PS. Thanks Dorcas and Stan for taking the initiative to organise! When can we go again?
